Fabio Paratici to take immediate leave following the FIFA Ban

Tottenham Hotspurs’ season has just gone from bad to worse as their Director of football is set to take an immediate leave pending the official FIFA verdict on his role in the Juventus accounting scandal.

Paratici to leave Tottenham

The former Juventus director has been accused in the scandal which has rocked the Italian giants and so far has received a ban of 30 months for his role it was revealed on Wednesday that Paratici’s ban in Italy had been extended worldwide.

The Ban

Paratici was handed a two-and-a-half-year ban from the game in January after his former club Juventus, where he worked for 11 years, was found guilty by an Italian court of false accounting, Juventus as a result of this was handed a 15 points deduction from the Serie A and are currently sitting 7th in the table.

While Paratici’s suspension initially only prevented him from working in Italy, FIFA’s extension of the Italian FA’s (FIGC) ban resulted in Tottenham “seeking further clarification” from the world governing body given an appeal had previously been launched with FIGC Federal Court of Appeals. The Italian FA asked for these bans to be extended worldwide.

Sources close to the development understand Paratici cannot conduct any transfer market activity directly – he cannot talk to agents nor negotiate deals, which is a fundamental part of his job as managing director of football – but he can work internally at Spurs, including attending meetings.

That appeal will be heard on April 19 but Paratici will now step away from his duties at the Premier League club.

The Club Statement

A club statement read: “This week – 29 March 2023 – the FIFA disciplinary committee announced a decision to extend the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) sanctions, relating to Fabio Paratici, worldwide.

“This decision was taken in advance of Fabio Paratici’s appeal hearing against the FIGC sanctions on 19 April 2023, the result of which would then have been considered by additional stakeholders, including the club.”
