European Qualifiers: Cody Gakpo rejoins Netherlands national side after brief absence

Cody Gakpo, the Netherlands and Liverpool star set to join the national squad after 3-day absence. He was reportedly affected by a stomach bug, which forced him to sit out from the international duty with a chicken curry being labelled as the culprit.

Ahead of the final qualifier, Gakpo’s return to the squad could boost the Dutch chances of winning after being thrashed 0-4 by France.

The Dutch national team coach Ronald Koeman had ensured that they will closely monitor Gakpo’s situation before selecting him for the next game against Gibraltar. He was heard saying, “We’ll decide in the hours before the match how Cody is feeling”. It was confirmed to be a viral infection as it had also struck five more players, who were forced to leave international duty prematurely.
