Erik ten Hag ‘criticises’ Marcus Rashford for partying after Manchester Derby defeat

Erik ten Hag has slammed Marcus Rashford’s behaviour for attending a party at a nightclub just hours after a 3-0 defeat in Manchester Derby.

According to reports, Rashford celebrated his 26th birthday at a nightclub in Manchester. Its been said that the party was organised prior to the game.

Rashford played 85 minutes in the Derby against Man City and was unable to make an impact on the game. Ten Hag believes it was “unacceptable” for him to attend a party afterwards. Nevertheless there are no issues between them.

Ten Hag said: “Yes I am aware of it, I spoke with him about it. It is unacceptable. I told them, he apologised, and that is it. It is an internal matter.”

When asked whether everything is fine with Rashford, he repeated: “As I say, It is an internal matter.

“He is fitting in. He is very motivated to put things right. I know how much effort he is putting in. He makes a mistake, but that doesn’t say he is not fitting in.

“Rashford is totally with us. He makes one mistake but also off the pitch what he is doing, how he lives, I am sure he is doing everything right to help the team and to perform and let us win.”

Marcus Rashford faces criticism for attending birthday party

Rashford had a stellar 2022/23 season with Manchester United as he scored 32 goals in all competitions. However, this season, he has scored just one goal and assisted three in 14 games.

Moreover, injuries to key players like Luke Shaw and Lisandro Martinez has also affected his ability to score goals.

Ten Hag’s side sit 11 points adrift from Premier League leaders Tottenham Hotspur after suffering their fifth defeat.

The Red Devils travel to Fulham this week, knowing that a win is important following back-to-back home defeats to City and Newcastle.
