Emma Raducanu Announces Tennis Comeback in the Next Season After Injury Woes

Former British tennis sensation Emma Raducanu has declared her intention to return to the sport next season after grappling with a series of injuries. The once world number 10 has faced setbacks, missing three out of four Grand Slam tournaments this year due to ankle and wrist surgeries conducted in May. Raducanu, now ranked outside the top 200, is set to stage her comeback at the season-ending WTA Finals in November.

Focused on Recovery

Emma Raducanu expressed her determination to make a comeback next season, emphasizing her focus on rehabilitation during the current season. She missed the Grand Slam events but remained committed to her recovery journey.

Since her historic US Open victory in 2021, Raducanu has grappled with a series of injuries that have hindered her performance. Despite her remarkable achievement as the first British woman in 44 years to win a major singles title, she has not progressed beyond the second round in any Grand Slam event since then.

Addressing criticism she has faced, Raducanu responded with resilience, considering it a compliment that she continues to be a topic of discussion despite her absence from recent events. She shared an insightful perspective: “The fact they are still talking about me even though I’m not at these events is just a compliment. Someone told me ‘worry when they are not talking about you.'”

Wimbledon Dream

Raducanu’s ultimate dream remains winning Wimbledon, an aspiration she has cherished since her childhood. Despite her injury-plagued year and limited playtime, she still harbors hopes of realizing this dream.

“I think every athlete, regardless of the circumstances, always has the dream to be at the highest level,” she added.

The 20-year-old Briton resumed practice in August after her surgeries and, though her 2023 season has seen her compete in only ten matches, she is determined to regain her form and strive towards achieving her Wimbledon dream.
