Emiliano Martinez breaks incredible clean sheet record with Argentina

2022 World Cup winner Emiliano Martinez has broken an incredible record with Argentina in their 1-0 win over Paraguay in the CONMEBOL World Cup 2026 qualifier.

With a win over Paraguay, Martinez has broken the record with his national team for most minutes without conceding a goal. Argentina took an early lead after Nicolas Otamendi’s thunderous strike in the fourth minute of the match.

The centre-back’s early goal was enough to keep La Albiceleste’s perfect run intact in the World Cup qualifiers. Lionel Messi did not start the game but later came on in the second half and hit the post twice.

The 2022 World Cup Golden Glove winner has now gone 622 minutes without conceding a goal for Argentina, breaking the previous record set by Sergio Goycochea in 1991.

Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez sets incredible record with Argentina

The Aston Villa goalkeeper last conceded a goal against France star Kylian Mbappe in the 2022 World Cup final, which was 10 months ago. Since then, he has recorded seven consecutive clean sheets.

Nevertheless, the record for most minutes without conceding a goal is set by legendary Italian goalkeeper Dino Zoff, with 1142 minutes from 1972 to 1974.

Furthermore, with this victory, Argentina have topped their World Cup qualifying group with three wins in three matches. Brazil dropped 2 points after a 1-1 draw against Venezuela.

“He continues writing history with his records. I hope it never ends,” teammate Rodrigo De Paul said after the game on Martinez’s performance.

Argentina will face Peru in the World Cup qualifiers on Tuesday, October 17, at the Estadio Nacional de Lima in the Lima District, Peru.
