It is now officially announced that the French Footballing federation have extended Didier Deschamps contract to be the first team coach until 2026. It had been widely reported in the french media that French board and the president Noel Le Graet only wanted to give Didier a two-year extension until the 2024 European Championship. But the 2018 world cup winning coach insisted on staying in charge until the next World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
Deschamps going for glory once again
Deschamps’ previous contract had expired after last year’s 2022 World Cup in Qatar, wherein France went all the way to the finals but only lost to Argentina in a penalty shootout. Under him, the European giants have been very successful as they won the 2018 World Cup in Russia and the 2021 Nations League.
They also reached the final of the 2016 European Championship. 2018 was the best year by far for Didier as he won the most difficult tournament in the world in Russia by beating Croatia in the finals by a scoreline of 4-2.
Under Deschamps, many youth sensations have come up for France with the likes of Kylian Mbappe, Camavinga, Tchouameni, Jules Kounde, Dembele, Coman and the list goes on and on. So there is no doubt that in the coming years, Didier gives another masterpiece of a footballer to the footballing world.
Deschamps spoke in a FFF general assembly after his extension, he said “I am going to announce something which for me is an immense pleasure, and that is that the president has decided to extend (my contract) until 2026. I thank the president for his constant support and his continued confidence in me. It is essential for the France team to function well.”
Deschamps also won the World Cup with France as player in 1998. Now he would definitely be looking to take France as the number 1 team in the world cause currently they are 3rd in the rankings.
