Devon Conway Survives Close Call as Delhi Capitals opt against DRS in CSK vs DC Clash

In a dramatic turn of events in the ongoing match (55) between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Delhi Capitals (DC) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, opener Devon Conway had a lucky escape after he edged a delivery from Khaleel Ahmed. Wicketkeeper, Vishnu Vinod, picked up an easy catch, but the on-field umpire remained unmoved and dismissed the appeal.

Khaleel Ahmed convinced but David Warner opts against review

Khaleel Ahmed was convinced about the edge and asked his skipper David Warner to take a review. However, despite Khaleel’s insistence, the 36-year-old didn’t take one after consulting with Vinod. Replays later showed that Conway had indeed nicked the ball, but by that point, it was too little, too late for the visiting team.

However, despite the reprieve, Conway was unable to capitalize on his luck and was dismissed for just 10 runs off 13 deliveries. Left-arm orthodox bowler Axar Patel dismissed the New Zealand international in the fifth over of the match as he failed to connect with the ball while attempting a sweep shot.

The Delhi Capitals bowlers were all over Conway, and he looked uncomfortable from the start. He survived close calls on two different occasions before ultimately walking back to the pavilion.

Devon Conway has been the most consistent CSK batter in the entire tournament. In 11 matches so far, the 31-year-old has scored 458 runs at a strike rate of 139.20. As a result, he is currently fourth in the race for the IPL Orange Cap.

The southpaw has made quite a remarkable impact so far in the tournament, including 92* runs off 52 deliveries against Punjab Kings (Match 41) and 83 runs off 45 deliveries against Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Ruturaj Gaikwad fails to make an impact

When it comes to Conway’s opening partner, Ruturaj Gaikwad, the 26-year-old once again failed to get going, managing just 24 runs off 18 deliveries against Delhi Capitals in match 55. Overall, he started the season well but has failed to make a mark in the last few games. Ahead of the business end of the tournament, CSK management will expect him to once again find his form.

Despite the close call, CSK managed to secure a comfortable victory over DC. Their strong batting performance helped them reach a total of 172/7, with contributions from Faf du Plessis, Moeen Ali, and Ambati Rayudu. In response, DC could only manage 164/5, falling short by eight runs. This win takes CSK to the top of the points table with 18 points, while DC remains in fourth place with 16 points.
