David Alaba: Real Madrid star defender ruptures ACL, club confirms surgery within few days
In one of the shocking news in Spanish football, it has been confirmed that Real Madrid defender David Alaba has ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament. He was limping off the field in Real’s 4-1 rout of Villareal which has sent them to the top of the table, for one day, as surprise package Girona might go on top after their against Alaves tonight.
David Alaba- latest injury addition to Real Madrid
Real Madrid might be leading the La Liga table, but they are at the receiving end of several crucial injuries which are dogging them from fielding their best eleven. Since the beginning of the season, Carlo Ancelotti’s men have been pegged back due to some harsh injuries, which involved several superstars in their infirmary like first-choice keeper Thibaut Courtois and Vinicius among some common names. Last night, there was another addition to Los Blancos’ injury woes as star defender David Alaba has joined his famous teammates on the sidelines, with a potential season-ending injury to him.
Real Madrid has reclaimed the top spot from Girona after defeating Villareal last night, as Jude Bellingham once again showed his class and exuberance whereas Rodrygo and Modric were at their best, with the 38-year old Croatian midfield metronome aging like a fine wine while scoring the goal. Former AC Milan star Brahim Diaz was among the scorers too, as he scored Real’s third of the night, but their joy was marred by a substantial injury knock received by former Bayern Munich star Alaba.
Third ACL injury for Real Madrid this season
The Austrian star Alaba, who has been one of the stars in the Real Madrid defense owing to his frequent run-ins and dazzling pace, is included in Real’s unwanted list of third ACL injuries this season, as he joins star custodian Thibaut Courtois and Eder Militao, as Los Blancos’ are reduced to two completely fit center-backs among their ranks this season.
It was on the 35th minute when Alaba was seen clutching his leg and grimacing his pain on the ground, as the extent of the injury could be evident from his face. After a routine tending by medical staff on the ground, it was seen that Alaba was taken off the field, adding more to the injury substitutions for Ancelotti, as the club has confirmed his injury on their official website, “After the tests carried out on our player David Alaba, he has been diagnosed with a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee. The player will undergo surgery in the coming days.”
In Spain, along with three of Real Madrid players, FC Barcelona’s prodigal child Gavi is also on the sidelines owing to an ACL injury which has apparently ended his season, with a European Championship at the end of this season to be missed too by the youngster. Although Alaba’s extent of injury is not confirmed yet, but it might take him months to take the field once again, which will be decided after his surgery reports surface.
Alaba’s teammates were seen posting their supports after his knock as Toni Kroos and Brahim Diaz took social media to express their support for their teammate, along with several others, whereas Jude Bellingham has mentioned staying by his side.
