Daniel Vettori named SRH head coach for IPL 2024

Former New Zealand spinner replaces West Indies legend Brian Lara who was the coach of the team in the previous season of the IPL

IPL 2024 is still a long way away but the franchises have been on the move since the end of the previous season. Several teams have parted ways with well-known names in the sport and have appointed new faces to start afresh.

Till now RCB and LSG have announced Andy Flower and Justin Langer as the new head coaches of the respective teams. Langer’s stint with LSG will be his first stint as a coach in IPL.

Having guided Australia to glory at the biggest stage LSG will expect the former Australian batter to recreate his magic with the two-season old team.

Interestingly Langer will fulfill the role of Andy Flower who was with the team since its debut in 2022. But now the tables have turned and Flower would be seen coaching the Royal Challengers Bangalore in IPL 2024.

A New Beginning

Another development with respect to changes in coaching setup is the appointment of former New Zealand spinner Daniel Vettori as the head coach by the Sunrisers Hyderabad. Vettori who has previously been involved with RCB both as a player and as a coach has enjoyed success in the past as he led RCB to the final of IPL 2011 as a captain.

He was also with RCB as a coach when the team reached the final in 2016. Sunrisers Hyderabad have been languishing in the bottom half of the points table in the last three seasons and have seen a change in the coaching setup twice during this period.

The Legacy

The 2016 champion would wish to replicate the performance the team gave till 2020 when they reached the playoffs in every season since their debut in 2013. SRH has been one of the most consistent teams along with CSK and MI in terms of making it to the playoffs.

One of the greatest strengths of SRH all these years was their bowling led by Buvneshuar Kumar who also won the purple cap in 2016 the year when SRH were crowned the champions of the IPL for the first time.
