Crystal Palace 1-2 Tottenham Hotspurs: Maddison and Son on song once again as Spurs go five points clear at the top of the table

Tottenham Hotspurs, in football match news today, have once again roared in their game against Crystal Palace as their ever enterprising duo of Maddison-Son steals the show away at Selhurst Park, thus leading Ange Postecoglou’s side to the top of the table, and five points clear since 1960-61 season, where they had achieved a rare double.

Spurs continue unbeaten streak

Tottenham Hotspurs seem to be in a blazing form since the start of this season. Owing to the likes of Son’s leadership and Maddison’s class, coupled with the strict vigil of former Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou, the Spurs are up and running in the league. Currently, they sit on top of the table, already five points clear of Manchester City, who sit at a rare second spot, with one game shy of the Whites. Last night too, Spurs have showed their class against Crystal Palace, where they had achieved a miraculous victory, as the goals came in second half, coupled by skipper Son’s eighth goal in ten league games.

With his top gun form, Postecoglou has made a bold comparison of Son with former Manchester United legend Cristiano Ronaldo, as Ange was heard saying after the game to Gary Neville, while speaking about Son’s new role as a center-forward, “I don’t want to make a similar comparison, but you had him at Manchester United, Cristiano. He started off as a winger, but I always felt with Sonny he’s such a great finisher, his movement is outstanding and I think he’s clever enough to play in that central area. I always like his work ethic, you see his press and that’s what initiates the press from a defensive point of view and I knew he had that in him. It’s an idea I had in my mind and it worked out.”

Son- a repurposed striker?

Son has always been a potent winger, with his dazzling pace and dribbling finesse made him a perfect choice to flank the wings for his side. But Ange seemed to have worked wonders for the Korean, as he has been blazing in front of the goal. Although he had not been on the scoresheet for the first three games when Ange had given Brazilian Richarlison the chance to replace legend Harry Kane, but after the Korean’s hattrick in their game against Burnley, there was no looking back for him. Last night, Son netted the eighth goal of this season in ten league games, thus showcasing his worth and mettle as a striker.

Joel Ward’s own goal was enough to rack up enthusiasm in the Spurs side as few minutes later that strike, it was Son who scored, thus foraging his intimate understanding with former Leicester star James Maddison. Although Palace was a tough nut to crack, Hodgson’s side eventually slumped to an unscrupulous defeat at the hands of “Ange-ball”.

But, in the half-time when both sides were poised for a climactic finish, plenty of things were to ponder for Ange’s men, as he replaced Ben Davies with Emerson Royal, The visitors were lucky enough to get the first goal to a fumble at Palace defense, but the second was an work of art, with Maddison feeding the ball to sub Johnson, who crossed for Son, as the Korean netted his eighth of the season.

The travelling fans were heard singing “We are top of the league”, as they were showing their support for Ange, who has won the Manager of the Month in August and September, and has won three games in October, with more pitted to come.
