Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al-Nassr gets banned by FIFA which will prevent them from registering new players after they failed to pay £390,000 to Leicester City.

The Saudi club failed to pay the add-ons to Leicester City for Nigerian forward Ahmed Musa, who joined the club for £14 million in 2018. Musa played 60 games with them and won the League with Al-Nassr, but he was released by them in 2020.

FIFA has now ruled that the Saudi club have not paid the Foxes £390,000 in performance-related add-ons. Moreover, in 2021, Al-Nassr were warned by FIFA that they would have a transfer ban if they fail to pay Leicester the outstanding amount.

FIFA ban Al-Nassr from registering new players

If the SPL club does not pay the amount, they won’t be able to register new players. Moreover, this applies to both domestic and international transfers, meaning they cannot sign stars from abroad.

FIFA’s ruling has also claimed that the ban could last for three transfer windows. But, the (Public Investment Fund) PIF have agreed to pay the fees to Leicester City to lift the ban.

Al-Nassr have signed Marcelo Brozovic this season from Inter, and he has been one of their most important signings of the summer.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s impact on Saudi Pro League

The Saudi club signed five-time Ballon d’Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo from Manchester United in January 2023, and is earning around £173 million a year.

Moreover, the Portuguese scored 14 goals in his first 16 league appearances for the club but couldn’t inspire them to the title.

Since his arrival, several players have joined the Saudi Arabia league. His former Real Madrid teammate Karim Benzema also joined Al-Ittihad, along with France midfielder N’Golo Kante.

This summer, the SPL clubs have shown how much money they can spend as they want to make the Saudi Pro League as one of the best league’s in the world.
