‘Rohit bhaiya, you’re the captain’: Ishan Kishan Trolls Rohit Sharma in a fun banter after 1st ODI vs New Zealand

Late at Wednesday evening, BCCI shared a fun banter in which the skipper Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan welcomed centurion Shubman Gill to the 200 club. Later in the video, Rohit turned towards Ishan Kishan. Wanting to dwell why the left-hander was not picked despite scoring a double century. Kishan was quick to give a fantastic reply that sparked a laugh riot among the three Indian cricketers.

Team India skipper Rohit Sharma is known for his jolly behaviour with the players. Often we have seen Rohit showing his witty character during media interaction. However, this time, Rohit unknowingly got trolled by Ishan Kishan after he hilariously asked Ishan, “why despite scoring 200 you sat out for 3 games?”

The young wicketkeeper batter was quick to respond and jokingly said, “Bhaiya yeh to aap btaoge, captain to aap the naa. [Brother you are the captain, you will tell.” Ishan’s quick response induced a burst of laughter as the three (Rohit Sharma, Ishan Kishan and Shubman Gill) shared a candid moment following Shubman’s maiden double ton.

Team India wicketkeeper Ishan Kishan played his first ODI game on Wednesday (January 19) against New Zealand. However, he was dropped after getting a maiden double century in his last ODI innings against Bangladesh last month. Kishan scored the fasted ODI double century but was dropped. Eventually, skipper Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill were preferred as openers for the Sri Lanka ODI series and KL Rahul was doing wicketkeeper’s duty.

Notably, Rohit Sharma and the Indian management were criticized for overlooking Ishan’s double century. After he was snubbed from the ODI playing11 against Sri Lanka. Team India had played Shubman Gill ahead of Ishan, and the netizens were certainly not impressed with it.

Watch dodgy Ishan Kishan reply hilariously to set the trio guffawing:

The skipper also lauded Shubman Gill, who scored an explosive double ton and pacer Mohammed Siraj for their performances in the match. “He (Gill) is going really well. The form he was in, we wanted to make use of it and that`s why we backed him in the SL series. Free-flowing batter and it is quite exciting to watch. Siraj has been brilliant, not just in this game but in the red-ball, T20 format and now ODIs. Really good to see what he does with the ball. Executing what he wants to do and he is very clear about his plans. Which is how it should be,” concluded Rohit.

Moreover, it was a desired start to the series for the Men in Blue as they grab a 1-0 lead in the first ODI of the New Zealand tour of India in 2023. India put forth their all at every single moment. Rohit and company triumphed in each segment, whether to discuss batting or bowling.
