As the league stage of the Cricket World Cup 2023 concluded, Cricket Australia revealed its ‘team of the tournament,’ recognizing standout performers from the cricketing extravaganza. The 12-member squad is spearheaded by none other than Indian skipper Virat Kohli, showcasing the remarkable contributions of Indian players throughout the campaign.

Virat Kohli Leads the Charge: A Stellar Tournament Display

Undoubtedly, the talismanic Virat Kohli secured the leadership role in the dream team. Kohli’s phenomenal form in the World Cup has been a defining feature, amassing an impressive 594 runs at an astounding average of 99.00 and a strike rate of 88.50. The captain’s innings included two centuries and five fifties, with a top score of 103 not-out.

The ‘team of the tournament’ boasts an exceptional batting lineup. Quinton de Kock from South Africa emerges as a powerhouse with 591 runs at an average of 65.67 and a strike rate of 109.2, featuring four centuries. Australian opener David Warner contributed significantly with 499 runs, showcasing an average of 55.44 and a strike rate of 105.5, including two hundreds and two fifties.

Rachin Ravindra of New Zealand showcased his prowess with 565 runs, maintaining a strike rate of 70.63. Aiden Markram, a key player for South Africa, notched up 396 runs at an average of 49.50 and a strike rate of 114.50, featuring one century and three fifties. Glenn Maxwell, the Australian all-rounder, left an indelible mark with 397 runs, including two centuries, at a remarkable strike rate of 152.7.

Impactful All-round Contributions: Jadeja, Jansen, and Zampa

The ‘team of the tournament’ highlights the significance of all-round performances. Ravindra Jadeja, the Indian all-rounder, showcased his prowess with both bat and ball. With 111 runs and 16 wickets, Jadeja proved instrumental in India’s campaign.

South African all-rounder Marco Jansen contributed significantly, amassing 157 runs and claiming 17 wickets. Adam Zampa, the Australian spinner, set the World Cup ablaze with a staggering 22 scalps, underlining his bowling prowess.

The bowling department witnessed stellar performances from Mohammed Shami, Jasprit Bumrah, and Dilshan Madushanka. Shami, despite featuring in only five matches, scalped 16 wickets at an economy rate of 4.78, including two 5-wicket hauls. Bumrah, with 17 scalps, showcased his bowling prowess, maintaining an economy rate of 3.65.

Dilshan Madushanka of Sri Lanka, named as the 12th man, emerged as a wicket-taking sensation with an impressive tally of 21 wickets in nine matches. Despite Sri Lanka not making it to the semi-finals, Madushanka’s contributions were noteworthy.
