County Cricket: Cheteshwar Pujara appointed Sussex skipper, shares elated tweet

It is a matter of great pride and honor to represent a county side, in any format. And to be appointed a skipper is anything a veteran could have asked for. Indian Test cricketer Cheteshwar Pujara just reached the status of a legend as he is all set to lead his County side Sussex in the upcoming edition of County Championship. He shared a joyous tweet on this occasion to celebrate his appointment.

The veteran Indian Test Batter is an integral member of the Sussex squad, and has been performing overwhelmingly well during his last stint, amassing 1094 runs at 8 games. He also went to lead his side in the ODI Cup.

Consistency led to appointment of the role

Pujara joined the county side when he was barred from playing for India due to inconsistency and was dropped from the test squad in the India-Srilanka test series. However, his consistent form and well maintained flourishing shots while playing for Sussex led to his comeback to the test side, as he celebrated an important milestone in his career by playing his 100th test, in the Border-Gavaskar trophy. Thus, he proved yet again that he is an epitome of the lines, “form is temporary, class is permanent”.

Key player for India

Pujara will be a vital pivot for the Indian team in the World Test Championship final to be staged in Oval, in June 7-11. Rohit Sharma-led side will be eager to break the trophy drought, as they take on Australia, which is indeed going to be a tough battle for both the teams as both of them will be looking to break their shackles and go big in the “Ultimate Showdown”.
