Cheteshwar Pujara confident of making a comeback in the Indian team after another successful county stint with Sussex

The experienced batter said that he is still in the scheme of things and is confident of making a comeback in the Indian team

Cheteshwar Pujara has been in good form for Sussex in the county championship and in the ongoing One Day Cup England’s domestic one-day tournament. The experienced batter has been scoring runs for his team across formats. He has continued his performance from the last season where he made a lot of runs for the same team. Although he hasn’t been able to replicate his domestic performances at the international level which is evident by the fact that the right-hander has scored just one hundred since 2018 which came against Bangladesh last year which resulted in him losing his spot in the team. He was in a similar situation early last year when he along with another senior player Ajinkya Rahane were dropped from the team after the tour of South Africa. But it wasn’t a long wait for Pujara to earn a return call-up as he was selected for a one-off test against England on the back of a steller county season for Sussex.

Confident of a comeback

History is repeating itself this time around as Pujara has been dropped from the team again and the batter again finds himself playing in England. But for Pujara it does not matter as the batter sees this an opportunity to make a comeback in the Indian team. In the words of Pujara “Look, I always try and control the things which I can. It’s always about getting as many runs as possible in whatever games I play. I am still in the scheme of things. So, I hope that the moment I start scoring more runs in first-class games, I will be back in the team. But I will try and be in present, try and take one game at a time,” said Pujara in an interview with Sussex Cricket.

Consistent Pujara

Pujara has been in cracking form for Sussex in the One Day Cup with two centuries and one half-century. He has been scoring runs consistently for his team his sequence of scores in One Day Cup is 23 vs Durham, 106 not out vs Northamptonshire, 56 vs Derbyshire, and 117 vs Somerset
