Chelsea sack head coach Graham Potter after 7 months in charge

Chelsea have sacked their head coach Graham Potter, who lasted just seven months at Stamford Bridge. He was appointed on a five-year deal in September 2022 but has left the club after winning only 7 out of his 22 Premier League games in charge.

His departure comes after Chelsea’s 2-0 defeat at home to Aston Villa, which left the team in 11th place in the Premier League table, now 12 points behind fourth-placed Manchester United.

Chelsea sack Graham Potter

Bruno, a former Brighton defender, has been appointed as interim head coach and will lead the
team in their upcoming home game against Liverpool on Tuesday.

In a statement, Chelsea co-owners Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali expressed their respect for Potter as a coach and a person, saying they were disappointed with the outcome and thanking him for his contribution to the club.

The statement also said that the team and the fans would get behind Bruno and the players as they focused on the rest of the season, which includes 10 Premier League games
and a Champions League quarter-final.

Potter’s efforts to turn team’s fortunes around fall short

Potter had enjoyed significant support from the ownership group, but ultimately, his record was
not good enough. He leaves with the second-worst record of any Chelsea manager in the
Premier League era, with a 40% overall win percentage and barely 30% in the league.

His tenure was marked by an eight-game losing streak in the Premier League, the longest in a
decade, and a period from November to March when Chelsea won just twice in 15 games, their
worst run in three decades. Despite his efforts to arrest the slide, Potter was unable to find the
solutions needed to turn Chelsea’s fortunes around.
