Chelsea Injury Updates: Edouard Mendy suffers fractured finger ahead of Man City Clash

Chelsea Football club have officially announced today that their goalkeeper Edouard Mendy has picked up an injury during the training sessions and he’ll now will be sidelined for some time ahead of their clash against Manchester City.

This has been due to him getting his finger fractured and that for a goalkeeper is simply a disaster which is why he successfully went for an operation which would surely benefit him in the long term.

Graha Potter’s side are yet to announce how long Mendy will be out for, but they have said the 30-year-old will work closely with the club’s medical department during his recovery to determine his exact date of return.

Chelsea’s injury woes continue

Mendy now joins the never-ending injury list at Stamford Bridge, with ten players there who are sidelined with various injuries which includes the likes N’Golo Kante, Wesley Fofana, Reece James and Raheem Sterling, Christian Pulisic etc.

The most recent ones were Sterling and Pulisic in which Raheem was the player to get injured first and as he was subbed off in just the 5th minute after suffering from an apparent leg injury in the opening moment against Pep Guardiola’s side. Pulisic went off in the first half too with a knee injury after seeing a shot well blocked by the Manchester City defender John Stones sliding tackle

Mendy was replaced as first-choice keeper by Kepa Arrizabalaga once Graham Potter was appointed as the head coach of the Blues after the sacking of Thomas Tuchel mid-season and since then has only played five games which all came when Kepa was out due to an injury.

He also has been going through his form since joining the Blues back in 2020 and hasn’t kept a clean sheet under Graham Potter. He has also lost all 4 Premier League games under Potter in which he conceded five goals. And apart from the PL, he has appeared a total of 11 times in all competition in a Chelsea shirt and in those 11 matches, he has only managed to keep a single clean sheet.
