The new cycle of the WTC 2023-25 kicked off in style with the iconic rivalry between England and Australia being played out in the oldest test series in the history of cricket: Ashes 2023. There were some magnificent innings played in this first game, that might have set the template for most runs in WTC 2023-25
Test cricket format provides the necessary time for a player to create as many as records in cricket compared to other cricket formats. A player can score a massive run if he stands long enough with a good striking rate.
Setting a massive target for the chasing team will put pressure on their batting. Thus every player will be keen to score as many runs as possible to move the team’s score beyond expected.
The second edition of the ICC World Test Championship has lived up to the top billing with all-time classic matches, bowlers bagging huge hauls and batters piling up a mountain of runs across the cycle.
Hence, it will be exciting to see who emerges as the most runs scorer in the current WTC cycle.

The England captain Ben Stokes is also in phenomenal form in this WTC cycle. He nearly won England the second Ashes test, and played a crucial knock in the third one to keep his team alive. WTC 2021-23: Most Runs scorer Overview
1. Joe Root tops the list of top run-scorers in the current World Test Championship
22 matches, 1915 runs @ 53.19, HS: 180*, 8 hundreds, 6 fifties

For the second World Test Championship cycle in a row, Root has found himself in the top of the list of WTC 2023 Most runs scorers. And unless the Australia opener that is next on the list can play an innings (or two) of a lifetime in the WTC final, it is likely that Root will stay on top of the charts with 1915 runs from 22 Tests.
The former England skipper carried his form from the previous cycle into the current one, starting hot with three centuries and a fifty in the first three matches of against India. Though he could not quite maintain those high standards at the latter end of the tournament, Root had piled on enough runs to pull away from the rest of the players in the run-scoring charts.
2. Usman Khawaja (Australia)
16 matches, 1608 runs @ 69.91, HS: 195*, 6 hundreds, 7 fifties
Usman Khawaja finished this WTC cycle as the second-highest run-scorer in the list of WTC 2023 Most runs scorers. His average of 69.91 is also the highest for any batter with more than 800 runs in the championship.
He scored runs both at home and away, with three of his six centuries coming in Asia. At home, Sydney was his hunting ground, scoring three centuries at the SCG including two in the same match against England and an unbeaten 195* against South Africa.
3. Pakistan Captains Babar Azam
14 matches, 1527 runs @ 61.08, HS: 196, 4 hundreds, 10 fifties

Though it might have been a forgetful WTC campaign for Pakistan and their skipper, Babar shone brightly for his team and once again showed the world why he is among the best in the business across 14 Tests in the cycle.
Babar had a relatively quiet start by his own standards, scoring just three fifties in the first five Tests of Pakistan’s WTC campaign. But just when Pakistan needed him the most, Babar stepped up to play the best knock of his Test career so far.
4. Jonny Bairstow (England)
15 matches, 1285 runs at 51.40, HS: 162, 6 hundreds, 2 fifties
Bairstow probably had the biggest impact in this WTC cycle with the bat in the middle order. His bordering on unhinged application of the Bazball approach saw him score five consecutive 50+ scores – arguably the greatest run of Test innings ever – including four hundreds, with three at strike rates greater than a run-a-ball.
While Daryl Mitchell had a brilliant campaign with the bat at No.5 too, Bairstow pips him for the kind of impact he regularly had when counter-attacking his team out of trouble on numerous occasions. He also scored two overseas hundreds in this cycle – one in West Indies, and one in Australia – to go with his extraordinary home summer in 2022.
5. Marnus Labuschagne (Australia)
19 matches, 1509 runs at 53.89, HS: 204, 5 hundreds, 5 fifties
Labuschagne was the highest scorer at No.3 of any batter in the entire two-year cycle, scoring almost double that of the second placed batter Cheteshwar Pujara. He absolutely annihilated opposition attacks at home, scoring nearly 1000 runs including three hundreds and a double ton against the West Indies in Australia’s latest home summer. His record was also decent away from home, where he averaged of 40.21 and scored a century in Galle.
