Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) Women were going through a barren run in the first-ever Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2023. Smriti Mandhana-led side were winless after their first five matches this season.

However, RCB men’s team former captain’s visit proved out to have left some impact on the team. Consequently, they were finally able to break their winless streak against the Warriorz last night.

After a collective show from their bowlers led by Ellyse Perry, whose 3/16 ensured UP Warriorz were bowled out for a moderate 135 in 19.3 overs, RCB sailed past the target with 20-year-old Kanika Ahuja playing the match-winning knock of 46 off 30 balls with eight fours and one six. She put on a 60-run stand with India keeper Richa Ghosh (31 not out from 32 balls, 3x4s, 1x6s) who played the second fiddle to perfection.

While talking about their first win, RCB captain Smriti Mandhana said “Virat Kohli bhaiya’s advice helped us, He motivated us & talked a lot to our team”.

RCB’s official Twitter account posted a video of the pep-talk, in which Kohli was seen sharing words of encouragement and wisdom acquired through his 15-year stint with Team India and RCB.

Kohli speaking to the team ahead of their clash said, “I’ve been playing IPL for 15 years, and I haven’t won it yet. But that doesn’t stop me from being excited every year. That’s all I can do. That’s the effort I can put into every game and every tournament that I play.”

RCB have not won a single IPL trophy so far. However, the franchise has one the biggest fanbases in IPL speaking about Kohli said,

“And the fact that we haven’t won the IPL, but I still feel that we have the best fans in the world. Only because we were always committed to every game that we played for RCB. That has been the most special thing for our fans. There’s no guarantee of giving you a cup every year, but there’s a guarantee of giving your 110% every year, and that’s all you can strive to do.”

RCB can only qualify for the playoffs of the inaugural edition of WPL if they finish the table in the top three. However, the top and the second spot has already been acquired by MI and DC, respectively. Nonetheless, Smriti Mandhana would be hoping to let go of the past and continue the momentum they must have gained after their convincing win against UP Warriorz.
