Buttler injured his left little finger while taking a diving catch to dismiss Shahrukh Khan. He received multiple stitches and did not come to bat in his preferred position as an opener.
Buttler likely to miss next game owing to injury
In the absence of Buttler, Ravichandran Ashwin was promoted to the top order but did not perform well, and Buttler came to bat at number three. Although he hit a boundary and a six, he was dismissed by Nathan Ellis in the last over of the powerplay. Rajasthan Royals lost the match by five runs.
During the post-match award ceremony, Buttler was seen wearing white strapping around his left finger. According to a report from The Times of India, he may not recover in time for the next match and may be rested for one or two games to allow the injury to heal completely.
Samson reveals Buttler’s injury and batting position decision
Rajasthan Royals’ captain, Sanju Samson, commented on Buttler’s injury, saying that he was not fit and was getting stitches for his finger after the catch. The team management is considering resting Buttler for a match or two to allow him to recover fully.
Root set to make IPL debut in place of Butler
Joe Root, Buttler’s fellow Englishman, is likely to make his debut in the IPL, replacing Buttler in the playing XI against Delhi Capitals. While Buttler took two catches in the match, his injury has left the team in a challenging situation, and they will have to find a way to cope without their best batsman.
