In recent sports news football, it has been revealed that Bruno Guimaraes has a ‘secret Barcelona clause’ in his new contract as he remains open for a potential move in the future.
Guimaraes, who signed a new contract until 2028 with Newcastle United recently, has reportedly opted to include a ‘Barcelona release clause.’
The Brazilian joined the Magpies from Lyon in the January 2022 transfer window. Guimaraes moved to Newcastle United shortly after PIF’s takeover. Since then, he has played a crucial role for Eddie Howe’s side.
Moreover, he helped Newcastle United to secure a Champions League spot last season for the first time in two decades.
Can Guimaraes be Barcelona’s next ‘big signing’?
According to Toni Juanmarti, the La Liga champions are keeping an eye on the Brazilian midfielder for a long time now. They have signed Oriol Romeu this season, but he cannot replicate what Sergio Busquets did for them.
Next season, Barca will definitely aim to sign a word class defensive midfielder. Big clubs like Real Madrid, PSG, Liverpool and Barcelona were looking to swoop in for Guimaraes in the summer. But, Newcastle decided to renew his contract until 2028.
However, despite signing a new contract with the Magpies, the Brazilian is still keen on his dream of playing for Barcelona in the long term.
Secret Barcelona clause in the contract
The 26-year-old is hoping to join the Catalan giants in the near future, and reports also suggest that he has inserted a secret clause in his new contract.
If Barca does go after him, the transfer fee would be somewhat lower than if another club were to bid for his services. Which means there is a price for Barca, and a price for other teams.
As per reports, the fee for Barcelona to sign Guimaraes would be around €65-70 million. Nevertheless, given their financial situation, its very difficult to pay that amount.
But if they make player sales next summer a move for Guimaraes could not be ruled out.
