Bruno Fernandes named new Man United captain by Erik ten Hag

Bruno Fernandes has been officially named as the new Man United captain after Harry Maguire was stripped of the armband last week.

The Portuguese midfielder wore the armband most of the time last season when Maguire lost his place under Ten Hag. Maguire recently revealed that he had been stripped off the armband after discussions with Ten Hag.

The defender is not having his best time at United and may consider leaving them this summer. West Ham United are interested to sign the English defender this summer.

Since making his debut in 2020, Bruno has scored 64 goals and 54 assists in 185 games for the club in all competitions. However, the 28-year-old was heavily criticized by United fans after a 7-0 loss to Liverpool last season.

However, he gained their trust back by helping United to reach the latter stages of the Europa League and a top 4 finish in the Premier League.

Moreover, Bruno has been the most consistent player for Man United since he joined them in 2020. His dedication, leadership qualities, and work rate on the field have made him a driving force within the team.

Manchester United’s statement after announcing Bruno as the new captain, “The Portuguese midfielder has already worn the armband for United on numerous occasions and Erik ten Hag has confirmed that he will now lead the team on a permanent basis,”

“As captain, the two-time Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year will continue to drive the highest standards throughout the squad as United push for success in the 2023-24 season and beyond.”

The Red Devils have recently arrived in the United States for their pre-season tour and are preparing to face Arsenal in New Jersey on Saturday.
