Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi provides update on Ansu Fati’s injury

Brighton and Hove Albion manager Roberto De Zerbi has provided an update on Barcelona loanee Ansu Fati’s injury.

The 21-year-old winger has impressed the Italian with his performances this season. He has scored four goals and provided one assist in 12 games across Premier League and Europa League for the Seagulls.

However, Fati was forced off injured in Brighton’s 3-2 win over Nottingham Forest last month. Since then, he has been assessed by Brighton’s medical team.

The Spaniard has suffered a hamstring injury, and De Zerbi has now issued an update on the Spanish international.

“The news about Ansu Fati is that I think he needs three months from the first day of the injury to recover,” said De Zerbi.

“It’s bad news for us because he was playing better, he understood the idea better. I’m sorry for him, I’m sorry for the team.”

Barcelona loanee Ansu Fati will be sidelined for 3 months

After struggling for game time in his boyhood club Barcelona Fati decided to move to Brighton in the summer transfer window on loan.

The Seagulls will pay 80% of Fati’s salary until the end of June, with an overall outlay in wages in the region of around £7 million.

The La Masia youngster signed a new contract with Barcelona in 2021, which included a £1 billion release clause. Fati was also included in Spain’s squad last year for the World Cup.

It remains to be seen if he will return to Barcelona after the end of this season or if the La Liga champions will sell him. With Joao Felix, Ferran Torres and Lamine Yamal, he would have to work even harder to get into the squad.

His career now has been ruined by constant injury issues and another hamstring injury means his chances of making Euro 2024 now look slim.
