Brentford 0-1 Arsenal: Kai Havertz late winner moves Gunners to top of the Premier League
In latest football match news, Arsenal’s new summer signing, Kai Havertz, scored a last-minute winner against Brentford as they go top of the Premier League table.
After Granit Xhaka left the club to join Bayer Leverkusen, Mikel Arteta replaced him with Kai Havertz. The Gunners signed him for from Chelsea for £65 million.
However, he struggled to fit into the team at the start. Arteta have tried him in many positions, but the German international lacked confidence.
After Manchester City and Liverpool drew 1-1, the Gunners had a real chance to sit at the top of the Premier League table. Nevertheless, they were facing Thomas Frank’s Brentford, who are among the most combative and organised opponents.
Arsenal go top of the Premier League after Kavi Havertz winner
In the opening minutes of the game Arsenal almost conceded a goal after Ramsdale’s mistake, but Declan Rice came to the rescue and cleared Bryan Mbuemo’s shot.
Despite his nervy start in goal, Ramsdale was able to deal with the pressure later in the game.
The Gunners took the lead through Leandro Trossard just before the end of first-half, but his goal was ruled out for offside.
Brentford had another great opportunity to take the lead with Mbeumo having an effort off target and then Neal Maupay having a shot blocked on the line by Zinchenko.
Super-sub Kai Havertz gives Arsenal all three points
It was looking like the game would end in a 0-0 draw, but super-sub Kavi Havretz eventually broke the deadlock with a close-range header in the 89th minute.
Saka unlocked Brentford’s defence with a superb cross, which found Havertz, who headed the ball between the legs of Mark Flekken.
Arsenal have now moved up to first place with 30 points from 13 games, one ahead of City and two ahead of Liverpool.
