BREAKING: MS Dhoni becomes the 1st Wicket-keeper to complete 200 Dismissals in IPL History
IPL 2023: MS Dhoni has bagged himself another record at the twilight of his career. The veteran wicketkeeper has been a stalwart of the game and is finding ways to achieve greater heights in his illustrious career.
MS Dhoni’s career is orchestrated with accolades, records and achievements. The former Indian captain has achieved many excellent things during his international career, and has been the same when it comes to franchise cricket.
And there is a new achievement on his bucket list now. MS Dhoni became the wicketkeeper with most catches in T20 cricket. The Chennai Super Kings captain achieved the record in CSK’s IPL 2023 match against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Friday (April 21). Dhoni completed a fantastic catch in the bowling of Maheesh Theekshana to dismiss the SRH captain Aiden Markram.
MS Dhoni knocks down sensational wicketkeeping record in IPL 2023
The first innings of the 29th match of the ongoing edition of IPL featured a lot of occasions in which captain and veteran wicketkeeper MS Dhoni was in the thick of the action. The 41-year-old took a catch, effected a stumping and a run out. In the process he went past South Africa’s Quinton de Kock to make him the wicketkeeper with most catches in T20 cricket.
MS Dhoni had taken the catch that dismissed SRH captain Aiden Markram, one of their most potent batters. That was his 208th catch in the shortest format of the game. De Kock, who is currently struggling to find a place in the Lucknow Super Giants’ staring XI, has taken 207 catches in his career.
In third place is another veteran Indian wicketkeeper, Dinesh Karthik, with 205 catches. Pakistan’s Kamran Akmal is fourth on the list with 172 catches while former West Indies wicketkeeper Denesh Ramdin is fifth on 150.
MS Dhoni also became the first wicketkeeper to complete 200 dismissals in the Indian Premier League. The veteran has a combined tally of 200 including catches, run-outs and stumping.
He has taken 137 catches, inflicted 40 stumpings and completed 23 run-outs in IPL so far in 240 IPL matches.
