Boult and Jamieson return as New Zealand announces squad for ODI series against England

Jamieson is coming back after a long injury layoff while Boult doesn’t have a central contract

New Zealand received a major boost before the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup in India as Trent Boult and Kyle Jamieson return to the squad for the four-match ODI series against England in September which would be the penultimate series for the Blackcaps before the mega event in India in October- November.

Kyle Jamieson is coming back from a long injury layoff which kept him out of cricketing action for a lengthy period and the series against England will provide a good platform for the tall fast bowler to assess his preparation for the World Cup. Jamieson’s return adds much-needed experience to the New Zealand squad which also sees the return of Trent Boult.

Boult Returns for Black Caps

Boult was not included in the list of centrally contracted New Zealand players as he wanted to play in T20 leagues around the world but he was keen on representing his country in the world cup.

The left-arm pacer has represented New Zealand in 99 ODIs and was also a part of New Zealand’s last two world cup appearances including the 2019 world cup in England where the team reached the finals before losing to host England by virtue of boundary count.

Boult who played his last ODI in September last year has picked up 187 wickets in the format while Jaimeson played his last ODI match in April 2022 against the Netherlands at home.

ODI Squad: Tom Latham (Capt.), Finn Allen, Trent Boult, Devon Conway, Lockie Ferguson, Matt Henry, Kyle Jamieson, Adam Milne, Daryl Mitchell, Henry Nicholls, Glenn Phillips, Rachin Ravindra, Mitchell Santner, Tim Southee, Will Young

Coach Speaks

Speaking on the selection New Zealand’s head coach Gary Stead said “England has been an impressive white ball side for quite some time and we’re excited to be taking them on at home on the eve of the World Cup.”

He further said “We’ve obviously had a history of great games against them and I’m sure the four matches will provide all the usual drama and excitement… It should be a really competitive series and I know the group will be looking forward to returning to play at the likes of The Oval and Lord’s once again.”
