Border Gavaskar Trophy: ICC Rates Indore Pitch “Poor” After Third Test Match

The ICC has deemed the pitch at the Holkar Cricket Stadium in Indore as “poor” under the ICC Pitch and Outfield Monitoring Process. The was pitch used for the third Test between India and Australia, which was played under the ICC World Test Championship umbrella.

Further, ICC Match Referee Chris Broad submitted his report after consultation with both Rohit Sharma and Steve Smith, the captains of both teams in the third Test and as a result, the Holkar Stadium has received three demerit points. BCCI will now have 14 days if they wish to appeal against the sanction.

However, the spinners from both teams enjoyed the surface from the start on day one, which saw. Out of the 31 wickets that fell during the whole match, 26 were picked by the spinners while only four wickets went to pacers and one was a run-out.

After the game, Rohit Sharma said that “Honestly this pitch talk is just getting too much. Every time we play in India, the focus is only on the pitch. Why are people not asking me about Nathan Lyon and how well he bowled or how did Pujara play in the second innings?

How Do Demerit Points Affect a Venue:  

The demerit points will remain active for a rolling five-year period. When a venue accumulates five or more demerit points, it will be suspended from hosting any international games for a 12-month period.

An accumulation of 10 demerit points will result in the venue being suspended from hosting international cricket for 24 months.
