Big Jolt for India! Jasprit Bumrah Most Likely to Miss the Ind vs Aus Test Series

There is big news on Jasprit Bumrah’s injury. As the India pacer has been ruled out for at least the month of February this year. This means that Bumrah will not be part of Team India’s ODI and T20I squad for the series against New Zealand. In addition to this, Bumrah could also miss the all-important four Test match Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT 2023) against Australia.

This series will decide whether India will play the World Test Championship final. If India wins, they will go through even a 2-2 draw will help them qualify but anything less than that means India will not play the WTC final.

BCCI Takes a tough call on Bumrah

As per a report by Telegraph, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided not to risk Bumrah in what is a World Cup year. The report stated that with the focus on the spin in the ongoing Test series, Bumrah will be given more time to recover as he may not be able to get through the workload of a five-day game.

The BCCI sources told the publication that Bumrah has been bowling at high intensity at the National Cricket Academy, where he has been recovering since being out of action starting September last year.

The Injury curse on India ahead of BGT 2023

Jasprit Bumrah’s injury woes dealt quite a blow to India’s chances to win two trophies in 2022. He had been ruled out of the Asia Cup as a precautionary measure considering the T20 World Cup later in the year but he ended up getting injured before the marquee tournament itself.

In both tournaments, India failed to make it to the final, with Rohit Sharma’s side getting knocked out after a 10-wicket defeat to England in the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup.

Bumrah has not played since September last year due to a back injury he suffered before the T20 World Cup. He was expected to make a comeback during India’s ODI series against Sri Lanka but he ended up suffering another injury and was withdrawing from the squad at the last moment.

Bumrah has not been included in the squad for the first two Tests against Australia but captain Rohit Sharma has earlier stated that he is hopeful that he will be able to join the team for the rest of the series.
