BCCI to hold meeting for discussing Team India’s T20 World Cup campaign

The BCCI is all set to evaluate India’s performance in Mumbai, just one month after India was humiliated by England with a 10-wicket defeat in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup semifinals in Australia.

This evaluation of India’s performance in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup semi-finals will take place in a meeting that will include captain Rohit Sharma, coach Rahul Dravid and NCA chief VVS Laxman.

This meeting will take place on January 1, just two days prior to India’s first series of the calendar year 2023.

There have been a lot of criticism towards Rohit and co. for their humiliating performance in Australia especially for the way they were knocked out in the semi-finals.

India have been questioned severely for their approach. They had adopted an ultra-aggressive approach in the build-up to the World Cup. However, this faded especially when it was needed the most.

Major changes made to India’s T20 side

The T20I team that will play Sri Lanka from January 3 onwards, has undergone a number of changes from the group that competed in the World Cup. For the series, players like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Rishabh Pant, and KL Rahul have been rested, in their place, Shubman Gill, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ishan Kishan, and Sanju Samson will take the field.

The team management have looked past veterans like Ravi Ashwin and Dinesh Karthik. Fresh talents in the face of Umran Malik, Mukesh Kumar and Shivam Mavi have been called in for the series against Sri Lanka.

With Hardik Pandya set to lead the team, it is clear that the team management is looking to build a fresh and new team for the future in the shortest format of the game. Pandya who is not yet the official captain of the T20 side, however is rumoured to be a possible candidate to lead the team in the T20Is.

Will India follow split captaincy? Will there be a specialised coach for T20s replacing Rahul Dravid? What holds the future of senior players in T20s? Everything will be discussed in this upcoming meeting and a roadmap for the future will be laid.

India is set to play a T20 series followed by a ODI series at home against Sri Lanka. The T20 series will start from January 3 in Mumbai, followed by Pune and Rajkot on January 5 and 7 respectively.
