BCCI announces significant increase in prize money for domestic tournaments

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced a significant increase in prize money for domestic tournaments, with the Ranji Trophy winners set to receive a whopping cash reward of INR 5 crore this year. BCCI Secretary Jay Shah announced the new pay structure, which will benefit all domestic tournaments, including women’s cricket.

Ranji Trophy winners to recieve INR 5 crore

The Ranji Trophy is the flagship tournament of Indian cricket, and the winners will now receive INR 5 crore, up from INR 2 crore. The runners-up and losing semi-finalists will also receive INR 3 crore and INR 1 crore, respectively.

The prize money for other tournaments has also been increased significantly, with the Duleep Trophy and Vijay Hazare Trophy champions earning INR 1 crore, while the Deodhar Trophy winners will get INR 40 lakh. Similarly, the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy champions will earn INR 80 lakh.

Increased prize money for women’s cricket tournaments

Women’s cricket has also received a significant boost in their pay structure, with the winners of the Senior Women’s One Day trophy getting INR 50 lakh and the runners-up receiving INR 25 lakh. The prize money for the senior women’s T20 trophy has been increased eight times, with the winners receiving INR 40 lakh and the losing team INR 20 lakh.

The increased prize money will motivate players to give their best performance in domestic tournaments, and the improved pay structure will also benefit the coaches, support staff, and ground staff who work tirelessly behind the scenes.

The 2023-24 domestic season for men will begin with the Duleep Trophy on June 28, while the senior women’s season will start with the national T20 tournament on October 19. The BCCI’s decision to increase prize money for domestic tournaments is a welcome move, and it is expected to take Indian cricket to new heights
