Bayern Munich shot-stopper Manuel Neuer returns to training after skiing accident

German shot-stopper Manuel Neuer has returned to training with Bayern Munich after breaking his leg in a skiing accident.

Neuer has been out of action since December. He played his last game for Germany on December 1. Furthermore, after Germany got knocked out of the World Cup, Neuer went to a skiing trip and broke his leg.

The German was supposed to make a comeback at the beginning of the 2023/24 season, but suffered another setback in his recovery.

Bayern Munich release statement on Neuer’s injury

Bayern said in a statement: “Good news from Sabener Strabe: Manuel Neuer is back with the FC Bayern goalkeeper team on the pitch.

“In Monday morning’s training session for the players who didn’t start against FC Augsburg on Sunday, the 37-year-old captain completed a session with his goalkeeping colleagues for the first time since breaking his lower right leg. Neuer has been sidelined since sustaining the injury in December 2022 but has now taken the next step on the comeback trail.”

Manuel Neuer returns to Bayern training after 9 months

Neuer’s backup, Sven Ulreich, has been in goal for the first three games of Bayern’s season, including Sunday’s 3-1 win over Augsburg. Moreover, Swiss goalkeeper Yann Sommer joined Inter earlier this month.

However, after failing to sign Kepa Arrizabalaga from Chelsea, the Bavarians have signed Daniel Peretz from Maccabi Tel Aviv to add depth into their squad. Furthermore, Ulreich will continue to be the No. 1 choice until Neuer is match fit.

Bayern haven’t given any specific details as to which type of training Neuer is currently doing. The club have only posted a statement. However, Bayern coach Thomas Tuchel indicated that Neuer’s recovery was going faster than expected.

After winning their first two games, Bayern will look to secure a third win against Borussia Monchengladbach on September 2.
