Senegal and Bayern Munich star Sadio Mane was caught off-guard after he had a verbal spat with his Bayern teammate Leroy Sane in the match against Manchester City, in a starry UCL night where his team was thrashed by three goals by Pep Guardiola’s side, courtesy goals from Haaland, Rodri and Bernardo Silva
He has endured a rough campaign with the German champions, which was yet again proved by their loss to Manchester City. But the highlight of the show was his bust-up with teammate Leroy Sane, a former Manchester City player, who has featured for Pep’s side quite often in the European top flight. According to reports, this short verbal altercation even reached the Etihad dressing room, and Mane was accused of hitting out at his teammate, holding him on the lip.
Was close to rivals?
Due to the unexpected conditions, Bayern Munich have suspended the Senegalese stalwart a game, as he will be barred from featuring in the next game against Hoffenheim. But, most surprisingly, if he is put on the fray on the transfer market, he should not be less pursued as Manchester United could come after him as they almost signed him once.
Mane spoke to former English legend Jamie Carragher in 2022, and confessed about United’s contract which was with him before he signed for the “Reds”. He was heard saying, “I have to say, I was really close to going to Manchester United I had the contract there. I had it all agreed. It was all ready, but instead, I thought, ‘No, I want to go to Liverpool. I was convinced to go with Klopp’s project. I still remember the first time I got the call from Klopp, citing Klopp’s influence over his signing .
He also added, “Sadio, listen, I want to explain to you what happened at Dortmund’. That was when he thought of signing me for Dortmund and for some reason it didn’t work out. He tried to explain and I said, ‘It’s okay, it happened’. I forgave him. Then he said, ‘Now I want you at Liverpool’. And I said, ‘Okay, Dortmund is behind us, let’s focus on the future.
Mane was playing at Southampton, before going on to join Liverpool and created milestones , which saw him become one of the favorite strikers of Liverpool, forming a formidable trio of Mane-Salah-Firmino, winning several accolades like UEFA Champions League and Premier League.
After the spat with Sane, he might face some unfortunate consequences which might see him on the transfer market, United could easily pry on him as they would not be sitting back without grabbing this opportunity of signing Sadio Mane, as it might see surge of interests from the Premier League clubs.
