Bayern Munich beat Manchester United 4-3 in Champions League opener

Bayern Munich started their Champions League Group A campaign with a 4-3 win over struggling Manchester United.

Furthermore, with this win over the Red Devils, they maintain their unbeaten streak in home matches in the Champions League group stages.

The hosts took an early lead in the 28th minute as Andre Onana made a blunder after Leroy Sane’s low shot. Four minutes later they extended their lead as Serge Gnabry scored in the 32nd minute.

Man United, who are struggling this season pulled one back in the 49th minute as Rasmus Hojlund scored his first ever goal for United.

However, just when it looked like United were getting back into the game, the Bavarians were awarded a penalty after Christian Eriksen’s handball. Harry Kane stepped up and scored the penalty to restore Bayern’s two goal cusion.

At the end of the second half late goals were scored by both teams. Casemiro added two goals in stoppage time for United, and substitute Mathys Tel scored the fourth goal for Bayern. Sane and Muller also hit the woodwork.

Manchester United came close to completing a comeback, but there was not enough time to score another goal. However, scoring three goals away at Bayern may give them a boost in the matches ahead this season.

Bayern boss Thomas Tuchel was not present on the touchline after he was sent-off against Manchester City in the quarter-finals last season. He praised Bayern’s performance but said that they need to improve in some areas.

The Red Devils have now conceded three or more goals in three consecutive matches for the first time since December 1978. Despite a promising start to the match they lost it through individual errors.
