Barcelona considers calling La Masia centre-back Mikayil Faye for upcoming fixtures

Barcelona are seriously considering calling B team Senegalese centre-back Mikayil Faye as the club suffers from injuries in the centre-back department.

Xavi’s squad have six key first-team players out, that are Jules Kounde, Pedri, De Jong, Raphinha, Lamine Yamal and Robert Lewandowski. Furthermore, all six players are a major doubt for upcoming El Classico on October 28.

The club have signed Inigo Martinez on a free transfer this summer and have two solid centre-backs in Ronald Araujo and Andreas Christensen. However, both are injury prone and that’s why Xavi is considering calling Faye to the first team.

Can the Senegalese take next big step at FC Barcelona?

Barcelona signed Mikayil Faye from NK Kustosija for just €5 million plus add-ons this summer. He is dubbed as ‘The Monster’ for his forceful defending. Faye can be a differential player as he has speed, ball output, can jump very high, and he doesn’t lose balls. These abilities caught the eyes of the scouting staff.

The left-footed centre-back can also play as a left-back if needed. Moroever, the 18-year-old was also tested by Xavi in the USA Pre-season tour.

Barca B coach Rafa Marquez has also praised Faye after he made his debut with them. With Jules Kounde out for almost 5 weeks, the Senegalese can get a chance to impress Xavi.

Can Mikayil Faye become the next Ronald Araujo?

Ronald Araujo made his first team debut three years ago when Barcelona had no other choice but to trust the Uruguayan. Since then, he has evolved into one of the best centre-backs in the world.

So, under some similar circumstances the club and the fans will expect something similar to happen with Faye as well. It is noticeable that Faye needs to improve his on the ball technique. But defensively, he is a monster like Ronald Araujo.
