Ashes’ Star Scott Boland signs three-year BBL deal with Melbourne Stars

Scott Boland, a well-known speedster from Australia, has signed to the Melbourne Stars of the Big Bash League (BBL) for three years. Boland’s addition is part of the league’s effort to bring more Australian superstars into the game as a result of the BBL receiving harsh criticism from fans due to the top Australian players’ commitments to various overseas tournaments.

Boland has a complete contract with the BBL, hence he is exempt from the limitations placed on local players who are signed as part of the league’s most recent supplementary-list structure. This is important to note.

Boland has just made a name for himself with Australia’s Test team, but before that, he was a regular in the Big Bash League, playing for Hobart Hurricanes in the 2019–20 summer and Stars for several seasons. The contractual structure has changed as a result of the BBL’s displeasure with the lack of local players.

The players who possess Australian central contracts are eligible to join the supplementary list and participate in some BBL games under the supplementary-list system. The same players must be granted permission by the Big Bash technical committee and receive a $30,000 match money per game.

Can’t wait to be a part of the Big Bash again: Scott Boland on his BBL return

“I can’t wait to be a part of the Big Bash again and it’s great to be back at home with the Melbourne Stars in front of family and friends at the MCG,” Boland said.

“The Stars have the best fans in the league and hopefully I can be a part of some success and that elusive first BBL title.”
