Arsenal suffer ‘shock defeat’ at Lens as Bukayo Saka limps off again

Arsenal suffered first defeat of the season against Lens in the Champions League. The French side came from behind to win the game 2-1.

To make matters worse, Bukayo Saka also limped off again after the half-hour mark. Saka’s injury is a big concern for Mikel Arteta as they face Manchester City this weekend.

Gabriel Jesus gave Arsenal an early lead in the 14th minute despite being dominated by Lens from the start. However, the French side equalised just after 10 minutes after David Raya’s misplaced pass went to Deiver Machado, which ultimately led to a stunning equaliser.

Furthermore, in the 34th minute, Bukayo Saka suffered a hamstring injury and was subbed off for Fabio Viera. Arsenal’s star boy also limped off against Bournemouth and Spurs, but Arteta still decided to start him in this match.

Lens hand Arsenal their first defeat of the season

The Gunners were not looking alive after Saka left the field as they were unable to create danger in attack. On the other hand, Lens were playing well and were posing a real threat in attack.

The French side made Arsenal uncomfortable at the back and pressed really high to keep them in their own half.

Arteta’s side had a brilliant opportunity to take the lead in the 67th minute. Odegaard’s corner found Tomiyasu, who was unmarked, but his strong volley was saved by Lens keeper Brice Samba.

After just two minutes, Elye Wahi scored for Lens and made a brilliant comeback to shock the Gunners. Arteta made some attacking changes to hit back at Lens.

Arsenal had some good chances in the end, but they could not capitalise and Lens defended deep to keep their lead.

Lens now top Group B with four points, and Arsenal drop to second with three points. PSV and Sevilla played a 2-2 draw, a result which might benefit the Gunners later.
