Gabriel Jesus reveals why he left Manchester City

Arsenal striker Gabriel Jesus says he left Manchester City because of lack of opportunities. He then made a switch to Emirates stadium last summer.

Jesus spent six years at Man City, having joined them from Palmeiras in January 2017. However he was not a regular starter. Pep Guardiola preferred to play Sergio Aguero in the starting 11.

The Brazilian was not happy when he was overlooked against PSG in 2021. Guardiola made the unconventional decision to play Zinchenko in an attacking role despite no indication of the tactical tweak.

Did Pep Guardiola made Gabriel Jesus leave Manchester City?

Speaking to the Denilson Show podcast Jesus said, “There was a Champions League game, PSG, at home in which he put Zinchenko as a false 9. Crazy thing. The day before, he didn’t even use him in training, he had put me in as a striker.. Zinchenko even joked with me: ‘That day I felt bad or you’.

“Two hours before the game, there’s a team talk, the team eats, rests for 30 minutes and goes to the game… I didn’t even eat. I went straight to the room, crying, I called my mother to talk: ‘I want to leave’. I’m going home, because he put Zinchenko on. He put a left-back there. I went crazy.”

Moreover, Jesus came on, and scored the winner for City, who were trailing after Kylian Mbappe scored. After Raheem Sterling’s equaliser, Jesus scored the winner to make it 2-1 for City.

The Brazilian also said that he wasn’t even going to warm-up until Guardiola gave him the call.

Can Gabriel Jesus revive his career at Arsenal?

Jesus won 11 trophies during his time at City. After joining Arsenal, he registered 11 goals during an injury-hit debut season. Zinchenko also joined him at Emirates Stadium last summer.

After Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette left Arsenal, Mikel Arteta wanted a striker who can link-up with the midfield. Arteta then decided to sign Gabriel Jesus from Man City.

The 26-year-old was injured for most of the part last season. But, he helped the Gunners to fight City until the end for the Premier League title.

The Brazilian will look to secure the number 9 position for himself for the next season to show how good of a striker he is.
