Another day Another Century for Gutsy Shubman Gill: Scores maiden T20I Ton vs New Zealand


Team India’s 23-year-old opener Shubman Gill on Wednesday recorded the highest-ever score by an Indian in T20I cricket after scoring 126* off 63 deliveries against New Zealand in the third T20I.

On top of that, Shubman Gill smashed highest-ever score by an Indian in T20I cricket. He broke the previous record held by Virat Kohli, who had slammed 122*(61) against Afghanistan on September 8, 2022. The hundred is Gill’s first-ever in T20I cricket.

The 23-year-old India opener’s unbeaten 126 runs off 63 balls included 12 fours and seven sixes. Which helped India post 234/4 in 20 overs.

After winning ‘Player of the Match’ award for his unbeaten 126 runs off 63 balls Gill said, “I was backing myself to score big.” “Hardik Pandya told me to play my game…he kept backing me,” he added. It was Gill’s maiden T20I century.

Virat Kohli took to his Instagram Stories to share a picture of himself with Shubman Gill and congratulate the 23-year-old batter on hitting his maiden hundred in T20I cricket. “Sitara, the future is here,” Kohli wrote alongside the picture. Shubman slammed 126*(63) against New Zealand in the third T20I, the highest score by an Indian in T20I cricket.

Reacting to Shubman Gill’s maiden T20I hundred, Dinesh Karthik said, “Putting up hundreds one after another…ShubMan seems to have just started. Good going.”

Mohammad Kaif said, “Shubman Gill shows T20 [cricket] isn’t about just unconventional and pre-meditated shots. Correct cricket never goes out of fashion.”

Congratulating Shubman Gill on his maiden T20I century against New Zealand in third T20I, Wasim Jaffer tweeted, “The best part about Gill’s batting is how many good balls he hits for fours and sixes. Batting like a dream.”

Shubman Gill played a special knock in the third and last T20I for India, completing his maiden T20I hundred in the process. That too, in the presence of great man Sachin Tendulkar who was there in attendance at the Narendra Modi Stadium. Gill continues his brilliant run of form and India will hope he makes more runs in upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2023.
