Abandoned Ajax-Feyenoord game to be completed without fans

Ajax’s abandoned match against Feyenoord will be completed without fans on Wednesday. The league match was abandoned in the second half after home fans threw flares on the pitch.

At first, the game was stopped twice due to troubles from the Ajax supporters, and later on the game was called off in the 56th minute.

Visitors Feyenoord were leading 3-0 when the match was abandoned at the Johan Cruyff Arena. However, according to reports, the suspended De Klassieker will resume on Wednesday behind closed doors. Ajax’s match against FC Volendam, scheduled for Wednesday, has been postponed.

Moreover, Ajax have released a statement where they have rejected the Dutch FA’s calls to finish the match on September 27. They want the game to be rescheduled for early November.

Ajax-Feyenoord De Klassieker will be replayed behind closed doors

Ajax have won 36 Eredivisie titles and 4 UEFA Champions League and are the most successful club in the Netherlands. However, their form has considerably declined since Erik ten Hag left his role as manager in 2022.

Last season, they finished 3rd in the Eredivisie. Furthermore this season they have made a poor start to the new season. Maurice Steijn’s team have picked up just five points from their first four matches.

They were also on the brink of losing against Feyenoord, but the match was abandoned due to the fans. The fans were so angry after seeing that Ajax were 3-0 down that too at the Johan Cruyff Arena they started to throw flares on the pitch.

Following the chaos at the Johan Cruyff Stadium, the club confirmed the sacking of Director of Football Sven Mislintat. Maurice Steijn was also expected to be sacked but the club decided to part ways with Mislintat.
