Dwayne Bravo explains why MS Dhoni prefers batting down the order in IPL 2023

Chennai Super Kings’ skipper, MS Dhoni, has been in top form in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023, leading the team brilliantly and producing vital cameos with the bat.

However, fans and experts alike are wondering why he doesn’t promote himself in the batting order. Teammate Dwayne Bravo, who has played with Dhoni for years, has shed light on this matter.

Dhoni’s role in the batting order

Bravo revealed that Dhoni prefers batting lower down the order because he wants to give other batsmen, such as Jadeja, Rayudu, and Dube, more opportunities to bat.

Bravo said, “That is the position he has to bat. Everyone is batting higher than him, and he takes that responsibility and ownership upon himself to bat lower down the order because the likes of Jadeja, Rayudu, and Dube, he wants to give these guys as many opportunities as possible. He is happy to just play the finishing role.”

Chennai Super Kings is currently at the top of the IPL 2023 standings, having won five out of seven matches. Bravo credits the team’s high morale and ability to stay focused, regardless of the results.

He said, “The CSK morale is very high, and that has nothing to do with the results. We are a team that is normally very level irrespective of whether we perform well or not.”

The importance of momentum

Bravo added that while the team has started the season on a positive note, it is crucial to keep the momentum going and keep winning cricket games.

He acknowledged that the upcoming match against Rajasthan Royals will be challenging. “Tomorrow’s game against RR is going to be a very hard game,” he said.

Despite concerns from fans and experts about his position in the batting order, MS Dhoni continues to play an essential role for the Chennai Super Kings. His leadership and strategic decisions have helped the team achieve success in the IPL 2023 season.
