Andy Murray determined to play at French Open despite early exits on clay
Former world number one, Andy Murray, has expressed his eagerness to participate in this year’s French Open, despite making just one appearance on the Paris clay since reaching the semi-finals in 2017. The 35-year-old has recently suffered two early defeats in the clay season, including a first-round exit by Italian Andrea Vavassori in Madrid.
Murray wants another chance to play at the French Open
While reports suggest that Murray may skip the May 28-June 11 French Open to focus on Wimbledon, the Scotsman has stated his desire to compete at the Grand Slam event. In his own words, “I would like to play just purely because I don’t know if I’ll get another opportunity to play again. Whilst I feel fit and healthy, I would like to give it a go.”
The athlete has a history of success on clay, with a reach to the Roland Garros final in 2016, and he is determined to try again despite his recent struggles. Although his goal of competing for Wimbledon titles might not sound realistic at the moment, Murray believes that it’s still possible, and he is determined to keep pushing forward.
Murray is aware of the challenges ahead
Murray is aware of the challenges he faces and understands that it’s impossible to predict what the right decision is. However, he is willing to take the risk and believes that playing at the French Open is an opportunity he doesn’t want to miss. “It’s impossible to say what the right thing to do is, but obviously it’s a Grand Slam. I would like the opportunity to play,” he said.
Murray’s recent defeats on clay have been disappointing, but he remains committed to his goals, and he is determined to continue training hard and working towards his dreams. He understands that the road ahead won’t be easy, but he is willing to put in the effort required to achieve success.
