WI vs IND: Unakat, Sani, Mukesh Kumar to compete for fifth bowler spot in Tests

The rest for the Indian team is about to end and serious business will commence with the upcoming tour of West Indies which comprises of two tests followed by three One Day Internationals and five T20Is. The series will kick off with the first test in Dominica from 12th July followed by another one in Jamaica from 20th July.

Jaydev Unadkat and Saini front runners

One of the biggest questions in Infront of the captain and the management is who will be the third seamer in the test series? With Shami not in the squad it gives a good opportunity to Saini, Unadkat, and Mukesh Kumar to put up an impressive performance in the absence of the senior bowler.

Siraj is expected to lead the pace attack along with Shardul Thakur who also strengthens India’s batting along with spin twin Ashwin and Jadeja both of whom would be crucial part of India’s bowling lineup with the pitch expected to be dry the duo will become lethal as the test match progresses.

Chances of India playing a spin trio?

India might entertain the thought of going in with the spin trio of Axar Ashwin and Jadeja which would also mean that the Indian batting would be stretched down to number ten. But the chances of that happening looks slim as Axar and Jadeja are similar kind of bowlers and India would like to have variation in the bowling lineup

Gill at number three?

With Pujara not in the squad the question that is looming large is who will bat at number three for India? According to reports and various visuals from India’s net sessions, it seems like the team management is backing Shubhman Gill to bat at number three which means Yashaswi Jaiswal who impressed everyone in the IPL is all set to make his international debut in the first test starting from 12th July.

Will Shubhman be able to cope up with the challenges of batting at number is there to be seen because we have seen him struggling against the moving ball in England in the one-off test match last year. He might score runs against the West Indies but is he your long-term number three is something that the selectors need to answer.
