Vinesh Phogat urges Babita not to weaken the movement against sexual harassment in wrestling
Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat, who has been protesting against Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh over allegations of sexual harassment, has urged her cousin sister Babita Phogat not to weaken their movement. This comes after Babita had earlier tweeted about Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra’s visit to Jantar Mantar to meet the protesting wrestlers.
Vinesh Phogat’s request to Babita

Vinesh Phogat said that it had taken years for female wrestlers to speak up against their abusers and it was necessary for them to be supported.
On the other hand, Babita’s elder sister Geeta Phogat supported the protesters and urged people to become their voice. She also requested the public to not link the movement with caste-religion or politics, which she described as “very unfortunate.” Geeta Phogat stood with the wrestlers and tweeted, “I request all the countrymen that your sisters and daughters who are fighting for justice should support them by becoming their voice.”
The wrestlers have been protesting since Sunday, demanding the removal and criminal action against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh over alleged sexual exploitation and harassment as president of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI). On Friday, the Delhi Police registered two FIRs, one under the POCSO Act and another related to outraging the modesty of a woman, naming Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh following allegations of sexual harassment against him by women wrestlers.
