Sunrisers Hyderabad’s Washington Sundar Ruled Out From Remaining IPL 2023 with Hamstring Injury
The Sunrisers Hyderabad on Thursday announced that their all-rounder Washington Sundar will not be part of the franchise’s remainder of the campaign in IPL 2023 because of his hamstring injury. SRH have announced on Twitter that “Washington Sundar has been ruled out of IPL 2023 due to a hamstring injury. Speedy recovery, Washi.”
In seven matches that the 23-year-old spin-bowling all-rounder has played this season for SRH, he has taken three wickets and scored 60 runs with highest score being 24 not out.
Found His Top Form Too Late
Washington featured in each of the team’s seven games in the first half of the tournament. After going wicketless in the first six games, he took game-changing three wickets in an over against the Delhi Capitals. The 23-year-old also scored a brisk 24 runs in 15 deliveries which is his highest score in the season but couldn’t prevent his team’s third loss on the bounce.
The 2016 champions currently sit ninth in the standings with a 2-5 record. They face the Capitals again in the return fixture at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on April 29 and will have to mount their comeback without the all-round balance that Washington provides them.
History With Injuries
This is only the latest in a string of unfortunate injuries for the Tamil Nadu cricketer. Most recently, he injured his left shoulder after landing heavily on it while fielding in a Royal London One-Day Cup game for Lancashire and missed the tour of Zimbabwe. He also suffered a similar hamstring injury last February that forced him to miss T20Is at home against West Indies and subsequently missed a bunch of games for SRH with a hand injury.
In 2021, right after his exploits in the Gabba Test against Australia and the Ahmedabad Test against England, he suffered a finger injury while fielding for a County side in a warm-up game against India at Chester le Street. It ruled him out of the Tests against England, the second half of the IPL as well as the T20 World Cup in the UAE.
