Prithvi Shaw silenced his critics by blasting a brilliant double hundred for Northamptonshire in England’s One-Day Cup, setting the best total in the history of the game, following a forgettable IPL 2023 campaign with Delhi Capitals.

Shaw, who had a strange dismissal on his debut, made sure he answered his critics with a 244-run knock in just 153 deliveries. Shaw broke a number of List-A records in doing so, surpassing great legends like Sourav Ganguly among others.

The unprecedented accomplishment was made by the 23-year-old on Wednesday at the County Ground in Northampton during the One-Day Cup match between Northamptonshire and Somerset. Shaw would later score a hundred in his third appearance for his county team, but he didn’t stop there; he turned that into a double ton.

Before continuing the assault and reaching his second hundred in half the time, Shaw’s first century for the Northants came in 81 balls. He finished his double ton in just 129 deliveries.

Having said that, we have prepared a list of batters with the highest score in List-A cricket history. Take a look.

Narayan Jagadeesan tops the list of batters with Highest Score in List-A cricket

When playing for Arunachal Pradesh in the Vijay Hazare Trophy in 2022, Tamil Nadu batsman Narayan Jagadeesan broke the global record for the highest-ever individual score in men’s List A cricket by smashing a 141-ball 277.

The largest victory margin in a List A match was 435 runs, which Tamil Nadu achieved in the Group C encounter. The previous mark was Devon’s 346-run victory over Somerset in 1990.

The 2002 record of 268 points scored by Alistair Brown for Surrey against Glamorgan was surpassed by the 26-year-old Jagadeesan.

In addition, Tamil Nadu’s 506 for two in the match broke England’s previous record of 498 for four against the Netherlands earlier this year to become the greatest team total in men’s List A cricket.

The previous highest List A total in India was 457 for four by Mumbai against Puducherry in Jaipur in 2021.

Indian Captain Rohit Sharma comes in Second

Rohit Sharma’s highest ODI score is 264 off 173 balls, which he achieved in 2014 while playing for the Indian cricket team against Sri Lanka at Kolkata’s Eden Gardens.

The Indian captain Virat Kohli won the toss and decided to bat first during the fourth one-day international of Sri Lanka’s tour of India.

The hosts’ innings got off to a strong batting start with Sharma and Ajinkya Rahane at the crease. Rohit performed a devastating performance, breaking the record for the highest individual score in ODI cricket, after losing the early wickets of Rahane (28) and Ambati Rayudu (8).

The right-handed hitter broke Virender Sehwag’s previous record of 219 against the West Indies at Indore in 2011 by slamming 264 off 173 balls.

Prithvi Shaw scores the sixth-highest score in List-A cricket history

The Indian opener eventually was removed from the game with a score of 244, just six runs short of a 250-run total. His inning featured 24 fours and eight sixes. Notably, this is the sixth-highest score in List-A cricket.

Northamptonshire managed to post a total of 415 on the board, which is their second-highest score in the One-Day Cup, riding the Prithvi Shaw blitzkrieg.

It was Shaw’s second double-hundred score in List A cricket; his first came in the Vijay Hazare Trophy in 2020–21 while he was representing Mumbai. At the time, his 227-run performance set a tournament record.

Shaw achieved the greatest individual total in One Day Cup history thanks to his heroics, surpassing Ollie Robinson’s 206 runs for Kent. It goes without saying that it was Shaw’s best List-A rating ever.

The Mumbai-born opener joins Rohit Sharma as the only other Indian to get two double centuries in List A cricket, and he is only the fourth batter overall. Three double tons are in the captain’s possession.

Shaw outperformed Sourav Ganguly, whose 183 was the previous record for an India
