ICC Test Rankings: India regains its No.1 Test spot ahead of the ultimate WTC Final summit against Australia
India have been crowned the new No.1 team in MRF Tyres ICC Men’s Test Rankings, with Rohit Sharma’s side leapfrogging Australia in the annual rankings update. Australia’s reign at the top of the Men’s Test Rankings comes to an end after 15 months with India going past the Aussies ahead of next month’s ICC World Test Championship Final.
India taking on Australia in Test cricket has quickly become one of the most exciting rivalries in recent history and the rankings reversal sets up the World Test Championship Final perfectly, with the two sides set to write yet another chapter at Ultimate Test on 7 June at The Oval.
ICC Test Rankings: India regain No. 1 Test spot after…
Following the annual update that drops results from the 2019-20 season and reflects all series completed since May 2020, India regained the number one position in the ICC men’s Test team rankings after overtaking Australia.
The rankings assess series completed prior to May 2022 at 50 per cent and subsequent series at 100 per cent and India’s rating points have moved up from 119 to 121 as their 2-0 defeat to New Zealand in March 2020 no longer figures in the rankings.
Australia dropped to 116 points after wins against Pakistan and New Zealand in 2019-20 were left out and their 4-0 Ashes victory against England had its weighting halved in the annual exercise.
England, who have won 10 of their last 12 tests under captain Ben Stokes and coach Brendon McCullum, remain third with 114 points. India are also the top-ranked T20 team ahead of world champions England.
