Former Indian Bowler Praveen Kumar and Son Survive Car Accident in Meerut

Former Indian cricket player Praveen Kumar and his son had a lucky escape when their SUV collided with a trailer truck in Meerut. Thankfully, both Kumar and his son emerged from the accident without any injuries. Let’s delve into the details of the incident and Kumar’s noteworthy career in cricket.

Narrow Escape for Praveen Kumar

Praveen Kumar, renowned for his exceptional swing bowling during his cricketing days, had a close call on Tuesday night in Meerut. He and his son were involved in a car accident but fortunately came out unharmed. The collision occurred when a large truck struck the back of Kumar’s car, causing significant damage. Reflecting on the incident, Kumar expressed gratitude for their safety, acknowledging that things could have been much worse.

The recent car accident involving Praveen Kumar brings to mind the unfortunate incident experienced by cricketer Rishabh Pant. In December of the previous year, Pant was hospitalized following a car crash near Roorkee, Uttarakhand. Pant’s car hit a divider and caught fire, resulting in severe damage. Although Pant is on the path to recovery, he has been sidelined from cricket since the incident and is expected to return to the field next year.

Praveen Kumar’s Cricketing Career

Praveen Kumar, now 36 years old, had a notable career representing India in various formats. Between 2007 and 2012, he played six Tests, 68 ODIs, and ten T20Is, accumulating 27, 77, and eight wickets, respectively. One of his most remarkable performances took place during the ODI tri-series in Australia in 2008, where he played a pivotal role in India’s victory. His four-wicket haul in the second final helped India successfully defend a total of 258 runs, ultimately securing the series title.

Although his Test career was relatively brief, Praveen Kumar made significant contributions. During India’s tour of England in 2011, he emerged as the highest wicket-taker for the team, claiming 15 wickets in three Tests. Notably, he etched his name on the honours board at Lord’s with a five-wicket haul. In T20 cricket, Kumar showcased his skills and achieved an impressive IPL hat-trick while representing the Royal Challengers Bangalore against the Rajasthan Royals in 2010.

Having retired from professional cricket at the age of 32 in October 2018, Praveen Kumar has ventured into the business world. He now runs a successful real estate business and owns a restaurant in his hometown of Meerut. Despite bidding farewell to the sport, Kumar cherishes the highlights of his cricketing career and accepts that his time as a player has come to an end.
