Forever Getting Younger: David Warner on Ishant Sharma after DC defeats Gujarat by 5 runs

David Warner, the captain of Delhi Capitals, praised his team’s bowling efforts, particularly that of veteran pacer Ishant Sharma, as they defended a 131-run target against Hardik Pandya-led Gujarat Titans in a thrilling match. Delhi themselves could only manage 130 runs after batting first, thanks to Mohammed Shami’s fiery spell of 4/11.

Ishant Sharma’s impressive performance

In the post-match presentation ceremony, Warner praised both Khaleel Ahmed and Ishant, who got two crucial wickets, including that of the dangerman Rahul Tewatia. He particularly lauded Ishant, saying that the veteran pacer was “forever getting younger.”

Ishant successfully defended 12 runs in the last over, getting Rahul’s wicket and giving away just 6 runs to churn out a commendable 5-run win over Gujarat.

Warner also credited youngsters such as Aman Hakim Khan, who smashed a fifty, and Ripal Patel, whose 23-run knock in 13 balls helped DC reach a respectable total after Shami had rattled Delhi’s middle order.

“Our bowlers were amazing. Our batters struggled but credit to the way Shami bowled. Credit to the way Aman and Ripal played from then on to get up that score,” added Warner.

Warner expressed his concern over his team’s batting struggles, saying that they just find ways to lose wickets in clumps, and that he hates it when there is a runout. “We tried playing positively today with the bat, didn’t come off. We then wanted to come out and swing the ball, get early wickets,” he said.

Delhi Capitals’ third win in IPL 2023

DC’s bowlers kept their nerve and helped their side churn out an important victory, their third this season in IPL 2023. The five-run win over Gujarat Titans placed Delhi at the top of the points table with 6 points from three matches.

Overall, it was an outstanding bowling display from Delhi Capitals, and Ishant Sharma’s performance was particularly impressive. The veteran pacer’s excellent execution of his plans in the last over ensured that Delhi emerged victorious in a closely contested match.
