Cummins ‘Hints’ at Dropping Warner for the Fourth Ashes Test against England
England keeps the Ashes alive after a thrilling win over the Aussies courtesy of a calm-headed innings by Brooks and Woakes. Some lusty blows from Mark Wood ensured that Australia did not have a chance to come back in the match when Brook was out after completing a well-deserved half-century which brought England within touching distance of a famous win.
Experts believe that Australia has themselves to blame as they missed the chance of batting England out of the game in both innings they were in a commanding position with batters looking set to make big scores in both innings but some brain fade moments and poor shot selection ensured that England are back in the match which proved to be decisive in the end.
‘Cloud’ Over Warner’s Spot in the 11
Stuart Broad once again dismissed Warner with the same outside off-stump delivery which was the reason for his downfall in the 2019 Ashes series.
After announcing his plans to retire after the Sydney test in 2024 the ongoing Ashes series has become very important for David Warner. The left-hander has not been in great form since scoring a double century against South Africa and his place in the team has come under scrutiny after a mixed performance in the ongoing Ashes series.
Addressing the elephant in the room during the post-match press conference, Cummins said, “we’ll keep our options open. We’ve got nine or 10 days now, so we’ll take a deep breath.”
The All-Rounder ‘Conundrum’ after Marsh century
There are a few difficult decisions that Australian captain Pat Cummins needs to make before the start of the fourth test at Old Trafford and one of them is who will take up the role of the fast bowling all-rounder as there is fierce competition between Marsh and Green for the role. It will be difficult to drop Mitchell Marsh after his performance in his comeback match after four years.
Coincidently the right-hander played his last test against England in England in 2019. Cameron Green has done nothing wrong since making his debut and has made a name for himself as a good slip fielder as he uses his reach to stop balls in the third slip and third-man region which helps the bowlers in exerting pressure on the batters. Pat Cummins in his post-match press conference made it clear that the team has kept every option open heading into the fourth test match.
He said, “We’ll go away for a few days but everyone comes into it. Greeny should be fit for Manchester, we should have a look at the wickets, hav a chat and work out the best XI,” reports Fox Cricket.
