These days, same-sex marriage is widespread. Danielle Wyatt To Marizanne Kapp, some top female cricketers have also advocated for same-sex unions by marrying partners of the same gender. 

In the meantime, same-sex marriage has long been stigmatized in society. This practice has received strong criticism from traditionalists. With the advancement of society, many people have overcome these stigmas and wed the people they love, regardless of sex, and spend the rest of their lives together.

In numerous nations around the world, the taboo is now regarded as acceptable in law. To legalise same-sex marriage, there have been numerous LGBTQ initiatives in different parts of the world.

Many cricket players from various regions have taken the initiative and started getting married to people who are the same gender.

Dane van Niekerk and Marizanne Kapp

Due to their contributions to women’s cricket, Dane Van Niekerk and Marizanne Kapp have become household names in South Africa. Since the couple made their relationship public on social media, they have faced harsh criticism from trolls, though.

To the pair, who had been having fun together, it didn’t really matter. Niekerk and Kapp wed in a private ceremony in 2018, months before the ICC World T20, after dating for several years.

They also made history by being the first married pair to bat together in a significant ICC competition. The first two South African girls to train with the guys are Marizanne Kapp and Dane Van Niekerk.

Lea Tahuhu and Amy Satterthwaite

Amy Satterthwaite of New Zealand and Lea Tahuhu got married in 2017 and have been maintaining a healthy personal connection ever since. Tahuhu is a master right arm speedster, whereas Satterthwaite is a successful left-handed batter. Grace Marie Satterthwaite is the name of their other child. She was born on January 13, 2020, by the southpaw.

Megan Schutt & Jess Holyoake

Megan Schutt has always been a strong advocate for the legalisation of same-sex marriage and is one of the players who has spoken out the loudest about the cricket policies in Australia for women. She has promoted the cause by utilising the influence of social media. In the lead-up to the 2017 Australian Marriage Law postal survey, the ferocious fast bowler was also an active advocate.

Schutt proposed to her longterm girlfriend Jess Holyoake on the microblogging site Twitter shortly after the bill was passed. Holyoake accepted the proposal in about five seconds, and they have been living happily ever after.

The happiest day of Megan Schutt’s life, she added, and something that completes her. Megan Schutt feels incredibly proud of having contributed to something that altered the lives of so many people.

Nat Sciver and Katherine Brunt most recently joined the List of Cricketers involved in same-sex marriage

After getting married in 2017, Lea Tahuhu and Amy Satterthwaite of New Zealand have continued to have a positive personal relationship. Satterthwaite is a successful left-handed batter, whereas Tahuhu is a skilled right arm fast. Their other kid is named Grace Marie Satterthwaite. On January 13, 2020, the southpaw gave birth to her.

 Lizelle Lee and Tanja Cronje

Tanja Cronje and Lizelle Lee, both from South Africa, wed in September 2020. Cronje plays for the North West in South Africa’s province whereas Lee represents the world in cricket. Since joining the Proteas team in 2013, Lee has played in 183 international games.

Liz Perry and Maddy Green

Cricket players from New Zealand Maddy Green and Liz Perry wed in April 2019. Perry is a past international athlete, whilst Green is a current one. Perry has played in close to 60 international games, the most recent of which was in 2017. Green, who made her international debut in 2012, has participated in more than 100 international games.

Hayley Jensen and Nicola Hancock

In April 2019, Australian Nicola Hancock and New Zealander Hayley Jensen became the first couple in trans-Tasman cricket to wed. In Australia’s domestic 50-over Women’s National Cricket League, both of these athletes represent Australian Capital Territory. Jensen has participated in 70 international matches while playing cricket for the White Ferns.

Jess Jonassen and Sarah Wearn

Jess Jonassen, an Australian left-arm orthodox spinner, is listed last. She has played a key role in the Australian team’s almost 150 victories abroad.

In the middle of a river in 2018, Jonassen proposed to Sarah Wearn, who is not a member of the cricket fraternity. The proposal was quickly accepted by her, and ever since then, the couple has been content. The couple promotes each other’s contributions to their lives on social media and has a huge following there.

Rachel Haynes and Leah Poulton: A Same-Sex Cricketing Power Couple

Rachel Haynes and Leah Poulton were some of the pioneers to set the template for the female cricketers to enter the LGBTQ+ community in sports by becoming one of the first female cricketers to be married to same sex.

Haynes up until last year was a part of the Australian Cricket team and served as the vice-captain during her career with the Kangaroos. Poulton on the other hand is currently the head of female cricket at Cricket New South Wales.
